ARCHERY Perhaps the best opportunity for a “record book” buck with Big Buck Outfitters, Inc. is an archery hunt. It is not uncommon for the trophy archery whitetails to average around 140 P&Y and the archery mulies to average in the 160s. It is uncommon for a client not to have a reasonable shot opportunity at a 120-150 class whitetail or a 150-180 class mule deer. Since 1999, well over 95 percent of the archery deer hunters have shot at or harvested good bucks. If a Pope & Young entry is what you seek, you should look into these hunts.

Archery whitetail hunts are primarily stand hunts with over 100 stand locations readied each year. Tree stands, ladder stands, hydraulic scissor lifts and Double Bull ground blinds are the common stands. Big Buck Outfitters, Inc. offers some opportunity to hunt mule deer from stands, but most mulie hunting is spot and stalk on bedded deer. Although in 2003 the three mule deer hunters shot bucks at 15, 20 and 25 yards, shots are generally in the 40+ yard range over uneven terrain. The average whitetail shot is in the low 20 yard range, but competence at 40 yards ups the odds of success. Be prepared to look over a lot of bucks on these archery hunts.
